Cassowary

Casuarius casuarius

About

The southern cassowary is a large, flightless bird native to tropical forests of New Guinea and northeastern Australia. Often called the world's most dangerous bird due to its powerful legs and dagger-like inner claw.

Their Eggs

Striking bright green eggs — among the most vivid of any bird species. Large and granulated in texture, similar to emu eggs but green rather than dark teal.

Fun Fact

Like emus, the male cassowary does all the incubation and chick-rearing. The female lays her eggs and leaves. The male sits on the nest for 50 days, then raises the chicks alone for 9 months.
