One of the most iconic tropical frogs, instantly recognizable by its vivid red eyes, blue-and-yellow striped sides, and bright green body. These nocturnal tree frogs are found throughout Central American rainforests.

Their Eggs

Tiny, transparent, jelly-like eggs laid in clutches on the underside of leaves overhanging water. The developing tadpoles are visible through the clear jelly.

Fun Fact

Red-eyed tree frog embryos can hatch prematurely if they detect vibrations from an approaching snake. They drop into the water below as tadpoles up to 2 days early — a remarkable example of predator-induced hatching.
