Saltwater Crocodile
Crocodylus porosus
About
The largest living reptile, reaching lengths of 6–7 meters and weights over 1,000 kg. Despite their name, saltwater crocodiles inhabit both saltwater and freshwater environments across Southeast Asia and northern Australia.
Their Eggs
White, hard-shelled eggs slightly larger than a chicken egg, laid in a large mound nest of vegetation. The decomposing plant material generates heat for incubation.

Fun Fact
Like sea turtles, crocodile egg sex is temperature-dependent. At exactly 31.6°C, all hatchlings are male. Above or below this temperature, more females are produced. The mother guards the nest fiercely for the full 90-day incubation.
